GEMMA SPARKLES IN LOSSIEMOUTH SUN

The sun shone brightly on Day 2 at the 94th Scottish Student golf championships at Lossiemouth's Moray Golf Club, and brought with it a host of high quality rounds.

The women's individual stroke play event is shaping up for a thrilling final day, with seven players currently within five strokes of the half-way lead, which is held by Stirling's Gemma Batty on an impressive two-under-par tally. 

Batty grabbed the momentum in the second round, thanks to six birdies on the way to a four under par 67.

St Andrews' Alexa Hammer completed her second level par round in consecutive days to occupy second place ahead of the chasing pack.

Greg Telfer (Glasgow University) carded 6 birdies on his way to the day's best men's score of 67 (-3) while Lukas Michel (St Andrews) posted a two under par 68 to lead the men's field on 3 under par, putting him one shot clear of Telfer, with Craig Howie (Stirling) and Chris Low (Abertay) each one shot further back on -1 at the half-way point.

A special mention to Inverness's Cameron Franssen (St Andrews) who recovered brilliantly from an opening day 84, roaring back to make the cut, thanks to a second round of 68 (-2).

The stroke-play will conclude on Tuesday with 43 men and 11 women completing a final 36 holes, before the men's team and women's individual match-play events commence at the quarter- final stage on Wednesday .
