Abertay student's 68 leads the way at Lossie

REPORT FROM BEN PHILLIP
Some excellent golf in mixed weather featured on the opening day  at the 94th Scottish Student Golf Championships at Moray Golf Club, Lossiemouth.
Christopher Low, from University of Abertay, Dundee, led the way with an impressive two-under-par 68 over the New Course, one ahead of Lukas Michel (St Andrews) and Stirling's Craig Howie.

The women started their 72 hole event on Moray's Old Course Level par rounds of 75 by St Andrews duo Alexa Hammer and Marie Danielsson led the way, each one shot ahead of Stirling's Jen Saxton

Luck of the draw played its part as the later rounds were interrupted by heavy hailstorms, delaying completion of day one by almost an hour.

Peter Hassan from Glasgow battled through the worst of the weather and did well to card a 73, while David Ritchie (RGU) had the lowest nett score of the day with a 74 less 6.

Play continues tomorrow (Monday) with both the men and women completing 18 holes on the New Course. The small women's field will all complete 72 holes, while the top 40 plus ties will advance to the final two rounds of the men's competition, concluding on the Old Course on Tuesday.
