GEMMA DRYBURGH FINISHES FIRST HALF OF US COLLEGE SEASON ON A HIGH
US COLLEGE GIRLS' GOLF NEWS
Aberdeen-born Gemma
Dryburgh, a student at Tulane University, New Orleans finished her fall season on a high note with an excellent three under
par final round of three-under-par 69 at the Alamo Invitational in St
Antonio, Texas.
Gemma (pictured above) finished 25th on
a three-over-par total for her three rounds (74-76-69).
It was an excellent
tournament for Tulane who finished third and following Gemma’s earlier
win, it was the second time in four starts that a Tulane player won.
It
was an excellent tournament for Baylor's two English students, the ultra consistent Hayley Davies and
Lauren Taylor, winner of the British women's open amateur championship when she was only 16 at Royal Portrush.
Gemma’s final round of 69 included an eagle and six birdies. Unfortunately it also included a double bogey 5 on the par three 15th following a run of three birdies, having had to wait for 30 minutes on the tee, and a bogey on her final hole, the sixth and a bogey on the second following her eagle on the first.
Having had a run of rounds where three-putting has kept her from contending it was a welcome bookend to the fall season.
Overall Dryburgh is ranked 80th in the latest Golfstat US women's college rankings based on scoring average, with a scoring average of 73.75 http://www.golfstat.com/2012-2013/women/wstop10.htm
However, the Scot is ranked 20th in fairways hit in regulation and 50th
in greens hit in regulation.
Had her putting been up to the same standard over the last six
rounds, Gemma would be much further up and that will be her focus between
now and February.
Other British players in the top 100 are the fantastically consistent British open amateur champion from Carnoustie in June, Stephanie Meadow (10th- 71.67), Hayley Davis ( 19th- 72.08), Sally Watson (46th- 73), Lauren Taylor (38th-72.58) and the surprise package, Meghan MacLaren (57th- 73.33).
