SANYA (China) Oct 31: Favourite Lee-Anne Pace's challenge in the Sanya Ladies Open may be as good as over as the South African sustained elbow injuries on Tuesday night.
The 2010 event champion lost her balance and fell backwards hitting the edge of a mirror in the bungalow where she is staying at Yalong Bay Golf Club.
She tried to support herself while taking the fall and had cuts just above the elbow that required five stitches. Her elbow was also swollen.
She was immediately rushed to a clinic to get medical attention last night but she could not sleep well due to the pain.
This morning she was taken to a military hospital nearby to receive further medical attention and returned to her bungalow shortly before noon.
The doctor said she may be able to play and Pace will decide on Thursday if she can play or not.
Pace was in a rich vein of form having tied for fifth at last week’s Suzhou Taihu Ladies Open in China and is pursuing the 2012 ISPS Handa order of merit title.
The tournament is scheduled to be played over three rounds starting Friday.
