AMATEUR CHARLEY HULL FINISHES TOP BRIT IN CRETE WOMEN'S OPEN

Curtis Cup player Charley Hull, pictured above, playing as an amateur, was the highest placed British and Irish player in the final placings of the gale-ravaged Crete Women's Open.
Winds up to 50mph lashed the Greek Island on Sunday and Monday, forcing the cancellation of the first two rounds and reducing the scheduled 54-hole event to a one-round "sprint."
Teenager Hull, a member at Woburn, shot a level par 71 (36-35) to finish joint fourth behind play-off participants Christine Wolf (Austria) and Chrisje De Vries (Netherlands) who headed the field of 65 with matching rounds of four-under-par 67.
Both had halves of 34 and 33 before Wolf won a sudden-death play-off at the first extra hole to earn the first cash prize of 3,387 Euros in this Ladies European Tour developmental circuit event.
De Vries earned 2,312 Euros
Pamela Feggans from Patna, Ayrshire was the top Scot in joint 13th place on level par 71, a shot ahead of Stirling University student and Nairn Dunbar amateur Kelsey MacDonald, who started at the 10th the four consecutive birdies on her way to a 72 and a share of 17th place.
Hamilton's Pamela Pretswell and Kelly Tidy (Royal Birkdale), two of the four members of the winning GB and I Curtis Cup team at Nairn in June who were playing in the Crete event, finished joint 32nd with 75s. They earned 262 Euros apiece. It was Tidy's debut as a pro.
Holly Clyburn (Woodhall Spa), the fourth 2012 Curtis Cup team player, also making her debut as a pro, finished out of the money with a 76 for joint 38th place.
Carnoustie's Katy McNicoll, who has had some high finishes on the LETAS Tour, had a disappointing trip. She recorded a nine-over-par 80 with an inward half of 43.
Gemma Webster from Glasgow ran up a 10 at the par-4 first hole and finished joint 59th on 83 after an outward half of 45.
