Lofty Grey ties for third, one shot behind the 

joint winners at Schenkel Invitational

Kent's J J Grey, a 6ft 4in final-year student at Georgia State University, finished tied third, only one shot behind the joint winners at the Schenkel Invitational college tournament at Forest Heights Country Club, Stateboro, Georgia.

Lofty Grey , pictured, had rounds of 69, 65 and 70 for a total of 204 over a par-72 course of 6,947yd.
Will Gordon, a Vanderbilt freshman, who produced a brilliant final round of nine-under 63, and Michael Johnson (Auburn) tied for victory on 203. Johson's final round was 70, which means ath Gordon made up seven shots over the course of the final 18 holes.
There was no play-off.
Vanderbilt also won the team title by a 10-stroke margin from Wake Forest whose Cameron Young tied with J J Grey for third place on 204.
Georgia State finished sixth in the team event, 19 strokes behind the winners.
There was a field of 84 players.
