Inci wins but Rochelle loses in Paris match-play

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Inci Mehmet (Royal Mid Surrey), pictured right, beat the No 3 seed, Frida Kinhult (Sweden) by one hole in the first round of the matchplay stages of the French U21s' Esmond Trophy at Paris St Cloud today.
Kinult was the No 1 seed for the match-play stages of last year's British girls championship and reached the quarter-finals before losing.
Nineteen-year-old Inci, 30th of the 32 qualifiers from the 36-hole stroke-play qualifier, now plays the 19th qualifier, Angelica Moresco (Italy) who won her tie by two holes.
Mehmet is currently eighth in the LGU Order of Merit. Her father comes from Turkey and she is a member of three top golf clubs - Royal Mid-Surrey, Wentworth and Prince's.
Rochelle Morris (Woodsome Hall), pictured left, the only other English qualifier, in the 32nd position, lost by 6 and 5 to No 1 seed Giola Carpinelli from Italy.
Rochelle is No 3 in the LGU Order of Merit. If she could maintain that position until after the "Helen Holm," she would almost certainly gain one of the GB and I Curtis Cup team automatic selections.
