Gemma Dryburgh's 10th place finish

 at Baton Rouge

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Curtis Cup player Gemma Dryburgh, hoping to win a place in the GB and I team for the Vagliano Trophy match against the Continent of Europe at Malone Golf Club, Belfast in June, finished a disappointing 10th in a field of 89 at the LSU Tiger Classic which ended at the University Club, Baton Rouge in Louisiana today.
Disappointing, because the Aberdonian's second-round 69 suggested
she would be mounting a title challenge over the final round.
Overnight leader Madelene Sagstrom (Louisiana State), who could be in the Continent of Europe team for the match at Malone, dropped out of the pole position with a 77 and finished third, two shots behind co-leaders on two-under 214, Elise Bradley (Louisiana State) 74-68-72 and Rica Tse (Mississippi State) 76-69-76/
Bradley won a sudden death play-off at the second extra hole.
Dryburgh finished with a 77 which included a douoble bogey 6 at the par-4 seventh and a double bogey 5 at the short 16th.
The Aberdonian got her only birdie at the long 17th. She also bogeyed the fifth and 15th.
Gemma's dad, Aberdeen oil executive John Dryburgh, commented:
"Gemma did finish with another top 10 in a very high quality field but had a very frustrating final day on the greens with a string of good birdie chances going a begging and being punished for a couple of wayward shots both of which ended in double bogeys.
"She finished five over in the end and five over for the tournament, her last regular season tournament at Tulane. She played extremely well over all three days so plenty of optimism for the post-season and beyond."
Here is how the other British and Irish players finished:
224 (tied 16th) Brogan Townend (Texas San Antonio) 79 74 75
226 (T19) Jessica Carty (Denver) 76 77 73
