Scottish students championships start in blustery conditions

THREE SHARE LEAD AT LOSSIE

FROM DR ROB MACPHERSON
It was a close day at Lossiemouth as the blustery conditions at Moray Golf Club tested the best student golfers in the UK at the 93rd Scottish Student Championships.
Playing together. Tom Beasley (St Andrews; Hunstanton) and Chris MacLean (Stirling; Balmore) both shot excellent 68s, and they soon were followed by Henry Tomlinson (Stirling; Royal Lytham). Previous winner Mathias Eggenberger (Stirling, Bad Ragaz, Switzerland) led a host of Stirling players on 69 and 70, split by Grant Price (Durham, USA).
In the Ladies event, Gemma Batty (Stirling, Powfoot) shot an excellent two under par 73 to lead by two shots from Nastja Banovec (Abertay Dundee, Monifeith).
The second rounds continue tomorrow and the team competitions concludes with 36 holes round Moray Old on Tuesday.
