GERMANY'S KAROLIN LEADS IN INAUGURAL IRISH U18 GIRLS STROKE

NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE IRISH LADIES GOLF UNIONGermany’s Karolin Lampert fired a sensational six-under-par par 67 to lead the inaugural Irish U18 Strokeplay Championship at Knightsbrook Hotel Spa and Golf Resort in Co. Meath today.
Lampert birdied the second, fifth, seventh and eight to turn three under par in perfect golfing conditions. Further birdies at the tenth, thirteenth and seventeenth saw her sign for a 67, two shots ahead of local favourite Lisa Maguire and Quirine Eijkenboom (Ger). Maguire enjoyed birdies at the fourth, seventh, eight and ninth and came home in level par to lead the Irish challenge.
Twin sister Leona is one shot further back on 70 alongside Scotland’s Alyson McKechin.
The 54 hole tournament, a first for Ireland, has attracted the cream of Europe’s underage golfing talent as players vie for valuable Ping Junior Solheim Cup ranking points for the biennial event at the same venue later this year. The top fifty players have broken 80 in the opening round.
Lisa Maguire currently leads the PJSC rankings followed by Emilie Alonso (FRA), Leona, Noemi Jimenez Martin (ESP), Emma Nilsson (SWE) and Antonia Scherer (GER). Six of the top nine players with PJSC ranking points are in action this weekend.
The 72 competitors will play a further 18 holes this afternoon with the top 60 players qualifying for the final round tomorrow, Sunday.
