GIRL CAPS WIN LONDON FOURSOMES FOR THE BERKSHIRFE

NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE ENGLISH WOMEN'S GOLF ASSOCIATION
England girl internationals Alex Peters and Heidi Baek teamed up to win the London Foursomes for the host club, The Berkshire.
Alex’s home club is Notts Ladies, while Heidi’s is Felixstowe Ferry in Suffolk, but both teenagers are also junior members of The Berkshire while they study at Wellington College.
They made the most of their membership, easing their way through the rounds until the final. There, they faced a good fight with Sundridge Park, represented by Kim Morris, a two-handicapper, and former Dutch international, Tita McCart. The standard of golf was very good and The Berkshire were five up after 7 holes and reached the turn in an estimated score of three-under par. Sundridge Park fought back and played the next seven holes in two- under before conceding at the 17th, giving The Berkshire a 3/1 victory.
The semi-finals featured a pair of 14-year-olds from West Essex, Ashleigh Greenham and Sophie Madden, who both play off four. They beat the holders, Worplesdon, in the second round and eventually lost to Sundridge Park on the 18th in the semi-final. The youngsters played well but lost the last three holes to two much more experienced players.
The second semi-final was between The Berkshire and Pyecombe, represented by Sussex county players Aileen Greenfield and Jo Galway.
The competition is open to clubs within a 45-mile radius of central London and attracted 87 entries for 64 places. The ballot came at a combined handicap of 16 compared with 20 last year.
