EAST OF SCOTLAND OPEN

 GALLAGHER HEADIND FOR HALFWAY LEAD

Cackhanded John Gallagher (Swanston), winner of last weekend’s Tennnant Cup, was heading for the halfway lead on a day of low scoring at the Swallow Hotels East of Scotland Open golf championship at Lundin Golf Club, Fife today.

Gallagher, who had a first-round, five-under-par 65 to be one behind first-round leader Bryan Fotheringham (Forres), had improved his position to 11 under par over all with five holes to play.

Early leader in the clubhouse was Walker Cup player Lloyd Saltman (Craigielaw) with a 66 and 66 for seven-under-par 135.

Scott Mann (Carnoustie), who had a first-round 68, was seven under par for the tournament with five holes to complete in his second round.

Apart from Gallagher, three other players shot 66 in the first round – Lewis Kirton (Newmachar), Terry Mathieson (Murcar Links) and Scott Jamieson (Cathkin Braes).
