SCOTTISH COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS

GOOD START BY BORDERS AND FIFE

Ayrshire's first appearance in the Scottish women's county championship finals for more than 30 years got off to a disappointing start when they lost their opening foursomes 2-1 to Borders at Scotscraig.
Martine Pow & Sheila Cuthbertson beat Lesley Hendry & Charlie Taylor 5 and 4.
Ayrshire levelled when Roslyn Kennedy & Jane Finnie chalked up a 5 and 4 win over Julie Birdsall-White and 15-year-old Emma Fairnie.
But Borders went into lunch with a 2-1 lead, thanks to a 5 and 4 win by Judith Anderson and partner Liz Campbell over Morag McQueen & Gillian Lockhart.
In the match between the two teams favoured most to be the eventual champions at the end of the three-day programme, Fife led Northern Counties 2-1 after the foursomes.
Jo Carthew and 15-year-old Krystle Caithness, making her Fife county debut, won by 4 and 3 over the Northern Counties' lead-off pair of Lesley Mackay and Pat McLennan.
Fife went 2-0 up when Elaine Moffat and Fiona Lockhart won on the last green against New Zealander Liz McKinnon and Jenny White.
Northern Counties kept their hopes alive of a rally in the six afternoon singles when Pam MacKay and Cara Gruber finished two holes up on Katrina Milne & Lorna Fury.
