Press Release from Irish Ladies Golf Union

IRISH SENIOR LADIES' OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP
Sponsored by Penneys

Pam Williamson from Baberton Golf Club, Edinburgh will defend the Irish Senior
Ladies’ Open Championship at Seapoint Golf Club, Termonfeckin, Drogheda, Co. Louth on Wednesday 17th & Thursday 18th September 2003.

Nine nationalities will be represented in the third staging of the
championship, including the United States, Canada, Germany, The
Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Scotland, England and Ireland.

Canadian Diane Williams, who was runner-up at Co. Louth last year, is a
former British Seniors’ Champion and was third in that event in 2002.
She will once again be a strong contender for the Irish crown.

Mary Mc Kenna (Donabate) won the inaugural event in 2001 but was unable
to defend last year due to injury. She is back in action this year and
playing well. Mary is also a former winner of the British seniors’
championship. She will be in fine fettle after leading Ireland to victory in the home internationals at Cruden Bay last week.

Also in the draw are other Irish winners of the British Championship,
Dr. Gerry Costello (1985) and Valerie Hassett (1986).

This year’s Championship takes on added importance for home players as
the team to represent Ireland in the inaugural Senior Home International
Championship at Whittington Heath (October 1-3) will be nominated after
the event.
The format for the Championship is two foursomes each
morning and five singles in the afternoon. The Non-playing Captain is
Pauline Martin (Woodbrook).
