END OF SECOND DAY'S PLAY REPORT FROM SCOTSCRAIG

NORTHERN COUNTIES HEAD FOR SCOTTISH
WOMEN'S TITLE AT SCOTSCRAIG

Northern Counties are set to regain the Scottish women's county golf championship they last won in 2000. A draw with Borders in the final match of the three-day programme at Scotscraig Golf Club, Tayport would be sufficient to clinch the title.
The Highland lasses followed up their opening day 5-4 win over joint favourites Fife at Scotscraig, Tayport by with a resounding 7 1/2-1 1/2 win over Ayrshire yesterday (Saturday).
Ayrshire, the West Division champions playing in the finals for the first time in over 30 years, have lost two out of two matches so far.
Fife bounced back from their defeat by Northern Counties to whip Borders 7 1/2-1 1/2, with 14-year-old Krystle Caithness from St Andrews winning in the foursomes and the singles, but even a closing win over Ayrshire today (Sunday) would earn Fife only the runner-up spot unless Northern Counties fall at the final fence, which is unlikely.
