MAUREEN WINS BABE ZAHARIAS TROPHY
AFTER TRIPLE TIE AT WHITEKIRK

Maureen Woodward (Gullane) won the Babe Zaharias Trophy at Whitekirk Golf Club yesterday (Tuesday) after a triple tie for the lowest gross score award at the 40th annual tournament in memory of one of the world's greatest female athletes and golfers who died from cancer at the age of 45 in 1956.
Maureen and two Royal Liverpool members, H Philips and G Ward all had 79s and the card countback gave the magnificent trophy Maureen by virtue of having the best inward half of par.
Whitekirk members had a good day in a big field of 189. Susan Grant won the Silver Division leading handicap top award with a net 66 off 15.
Janice McLeod, also of Whitekirk, won the Bronze Division's Ultraplast Trophy with a net 65 off 32 and the Whitekirk trio of K Hewis, J McLeod and A Luetchford won the team event with a combined score of only 49.
The leading Bronze Division scratch prize was won by S Cowe (Minto) with a 93.
The day, which was sponsored by Hilton Lodge Private Nursing Home, raised in excess of pounds 2,700 for the East Lothian Macmillan Cancer Relief Fund.
