ENGLAND'S U16 GIRLS BEAT SWITZERLAND

England won the annual U16 girls’ international against Switzerland  with an impressive 5-1 result at Pannal, Yorkshire.
The team of Thalia Kirby, Caitlin Whitehead, Charlotte Heath and Daisy Kennedy won high praise from England girls’ squad coach, Mark Day. “They were brilliant,” he said.
“The Swiss girls were really hot this morning and were quickly up in the foursomes, but our girls were confident, played really well, managed themselves well and stayed patient.
“They played really solid golf which was very impressive - and a credit to the regional squad programme.”
All four girls are in England Golf regional squads:  Kirby and Kennedy, both from Stoke Park, Buckinghamshire, are in the Thames Valley squad; Heath, from Huddersfield, is in the Yorkshire squad; and Whitehead, from Kendal, Cumbria, is in the North squad.
Kirby and Whitehead won their foursomes on the 19th – after their opponents holed out for eagle on the 18th to take the match on. Heath and Kennedy won 3/2.
The singles wins were scored by Whitehead 2/1, Heath 3/2, Kennedy 3/1, while Kirby lost only on the last. Whitehead and Kennedy both got up early on, while Heath found her putting touch on the back nine and Kirby battled hard to take her game the distance.
The match precedes the North of England U16 championship which starts at Pannal today.
