ALISON McBRIDE WINS BABE ZAHARIAS TROPHY TOURNAMENT AT GULLANE

Alison McBride (Harburn) won the Babe Zaharias Trophy tournament at Gullane on Monday, 70 years after the American, Mildred Didrikson Zaharias, nicknamed "Babe" after the USA baseball player, won the British women's open amateur championship on the same course.
Mrs Zaharias, an Olympic champion at several disciplines in the 1930s, is generally regarded as the greatest female all-round athlete there has ever been.
Alison McBride won the trophy with a one-over-par 75, one shot ahead of Kelso's Leanne Wilson with Maureen Richmond (Royal Liverpool), winner of the British championship as Maureen Walker, finishing third with a 77.
Defending champion Julie Birdsall (Roxburghe Hotel) finished joint seventh with an 84.
Leanne Wilson, playing off five, had the best handicap score of 71.
