SCOTS FAIL TO BREAK 80 IN AUSSIE OPEN ROUND 3


Gemma Dryburgh and Michele Thomson had disastrous third rounds in the 80s and have plummeted down the Women's Australian Open field from their T20 halfway positions at Royal Adelaide Golf Club.

Aberdeen-born Dryburgh is now T56 on 222 with rounds of 73, 69 and 80. She had seven bogeys and no birdies in her third round.

Thomson, from Ellon, Aberdeenshire, returned a third-round 81 which included a triple bogey 7 at the 18th and double bogeys at the par-4 first and par-3 16th. Her earlier rounds were 68 and 74.

With a 54-hole tally of 223, Michele is now T63.

American Lizette Salas leads by two shots with scores of 68, 70, 71 and 209 over the par-73 course of 6,692yds.

Australian Sarah Jane Smith,the halfway leader, had a third-round 74 and is joint second on 211 with Pornanong Phatlum (Thailand) and Australian Su Oh.

The leading British player is Amy Boulden from Wales in tied 10th position on 214, five shots off the pace.
