The Golf College crowned National Champions
The Nationals finals of the British Schools and Colleges took place on 5/6 May at Trevose Golf & Country Club. 48 Teams from all over the UK took part in the league to find the top 16 teams and individuals.
A sun drenched Trevose set the scene for the first days play with over 120 players vying for the trophy.With 6 players per team and the best 4 scores to count. After the first day The Golf College (280) lead by 6 shots over Lee Westwood Essex (286) and 7 shots ahead of last years winners Hartpury (287). Balby Carr (289) were a further 2 shots behind and local favourites Truro (292). Low score of the day came from the Golf Colleges Mikey Doble with an excellent round of 67 - 4 under par. Luke Palmowski and Jared Mortimer both shot a 2 under par 69, with a further 6 players on 1 under par.
The National finals are mainly a team event with an Individual element with a view to promoting team spirit..Some of the teams visited the local well know restaurants in Padstow whilst others went for a dip in the sea after the first days play.
All to play for on the second day.
The Golf College kept their nerve and cemented their lead by a further 8 shots finishing 14 shots ahead of Lee Westwood Essex and 18 shots ahead of Hartpury. The golf College have been knocking on the door for the last few years and this was their year.
Lauren Horsford took the individual title with 2 great rounds of 70 and 69 ( 11 under the ladies par). second place went to Giles Evans with scores of 70 - 70. Aldeberto Montini took the 3rd spot on count back with scores of 74 -67.
Teams and Individuals all picked up their trophies and prizes from HERALDIC GEMS, GALVIN GREEN and ALEXANDER QUIN.
The top teams will now be invited to play in the Alexander Quin Invitational, a WAGR event being held at St Mellion International in September.
The top 10 players were also awarded ranking points on the US world ranking points system SPWAR
