Jane Herd wins East Lothian title

REPORT FROM BARBARA BIGGART
Jane Herd (Gullane Ladies) is the new East Lothian ladies champion and  Janette Laing (Musselburgh) won the Handicap Quaich at Musselburgh Golf Club today.
It was a dull chilly morning but all the matches were well contested and were very close, all finishing at the 18th hole.
Keren Ward played steady golf against Susan Penman in the first semi-final of the scratch championship . After a ding-dong battle Keren birdied the 14th to go one up but Susan came back at the next hole with a very good up and down from the bunker.
They halved the 16th in par and Keren won the 17th with a par and halved o the 18th, making Keren the victor by one hole.
The second semi final was also a ding-dong match and Jane Herd, pictured on right, managed to win the 18th to win by one hole against Kay Lannin
In the Handicap Quaich Anne Blundell had managed to be 1 or 2 up on the way out but Janette pulled her back so they were playing the 18th all square. Janette holed a good putt to win the hole and the Handicap Quaich. Janette (left) and club captain Anne Blundell (right) are pictured below.

The sun came out in the afternoon and Musselburgh Golf Course looked lovely bathed in sunlight. Keren Ward took the first hole in the championship final with a birdie and they halved the next 3 holes. Keren then won the long 5th with a par to go 2 up and they halved the next 2 holes. Keren unfortunately was in bunkers on the 8th and 9th so they were all square at the turn. Keren won the 10th with a par they halved the 11th and then Keren lost the 12th being in a bunker again. Jane Herd had an excellent 4 at the 13th to go one up and a birdie at the 14th to go 2 up and a par at the 15th to go  three up. The 16th hole was halved so Jane became the 2016 ELLCGA champion winning 3 and 2.

Anne Blundell the lady Captain of Musselburgh presented the prizes in the clubhouse afterwards. Everyone who came along and supported  the ladies enjoyed some excellent golf and all the matches were played in a friendly manner.
