Hannah McCook's first-round conqueror wins again to reach last eight

Lianna Bailey topples World No 3 and Sophie

Lamb is also in Spanish quarter-finals

After a great match which went to the 18th green, Hannah McCook (Grantown on Spey) lost by two holes to Sweden's Linn Grant in the first round of the match-play stages of the Spanish women's amateur championship at Escorpion Golf Club, Valencia today.

Hannah, pictured, was No 23 of the 32 qualifiers; Linn the No 10.
Grant won again in the afternoon to reach the quarter-finals.

The shock result of the day was a second-round victory by 19-year-old Lianna Bailey (Kirby Muxloe) from Leicestershire. She beat the top seed and women's world No 3 amateur, Maria Parra Luque (Spain) by one hole to reach the last eight.
Lianna, the 17th qualifier, will now play Marta Perez of Spain, the No 8 seed, in the quarter-finals (Lianna is pictured left by courtesy of Leaderboard Photographry).

Also through to the last eight is another English teenager, 18-year-old Sophie Lamb from Clitheroe, Lancashire.

Sophie, the 27th qualifier, beat Dutch player Zhen Bontan, the No 11 qualifier, at the 19th, and now plays Chloe Salort (France), the No 30 qualifier.

Lamb and Bailey are in opposite halves of the draw .. what price an all-England final? Probably a 100-1 chance of both winning their quarter-final and semi-final ties ... but what a boost for English golf if they could get there!

Lianna Bailey (Eng) (17th qualifier) v Marta Perez (Spain) (8)

Pauline Roussin-Bouchard (France) (5) v Silvia Banon Ibanez (Spain) (13)

Chloe Salort (France) (30) v Sophie Lamb (England) (27)
