Bronte Law's tied 2nd finish, only a shot

behind winner in South America

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Paraguay's Sofia Garcia has won the South American women's amateur championship, supported by the R and A, for the second year in a row.

She birdied the 18th in the last round of the 72-hole tournament at Lima Golf Club, Peru for a 71 and a seven-under-par total of 281.
England's Bronte Law (Bramhall) figured in a triple tie for second place, only one behind the winner on 282.
The others were Magdalena Simmermacher (Argentina) who finished with a three-under-par 69 and Lucia Gutierrez (Peru) who had a 71.
Bronte had an eagle 3 at the second and birdied the 15th but the bogeys at the short seventh and the 16th were what beat her in the end. Still, a grand effort by the English champion and student at UCLA.
Simmermacher and Gutierrez both parred the 18th.
Winner of the Helen Holm Scottish women's amateur championship, among many triumphs in 2015, Olivia Mehaffey (Royal Co Down Ladies), pictured, finished a close-up fifth on 283 with a final round of 71.
Meghan MacLaren (Wellinborough) and a student at Florida International University, tied for eighth place on 289 after a closing round of 70 which included a double bogey 7 at the long second but also birdies at the ninth, 10th, 11th, 14th and 15th in an inward 33.
She bogeyed the 13th.
Chloe Williams (Wrexham) showed her true form with a last-round 2 after earlier scores of 81, 79 and 76. She tied for 35th place on 308 - two shots ahead of Ireland's Chloe Ryan who had a 76.
Scots Chloe Goadby (St Regulus) and Hannah McCook (Grantown on Spey) finished T42 and T44  respectively in a field of 53 players.
Chloe closed with a 78 for 311,  Hannah also a 78 for 313.
