McMullen wins Irish Senior Women's title

NEWS RELEASE FROM IRISH LGU
Gertie McMullen (The Island GC, Donabate) defeated leading qualifier Mary MacLaren (Royal Portrush) to win her first Irish Senior Women's Close Championship at Castletroy this afternoon.

McMullen raced ahead early to lead by three holes at the turn, a deficit that MacLaren could not close and while holes were exchanged over the back nine, McMullen closed out the match on the 16th green, adding the 2015 Seniors Close title to her 2013 Open title won at Castlerock.
MacLaren, whose daughter Meghan played for GB and I in the Vagliano Trophy match at Malone last weekend, beat the defending champion, Laura Webb (East Berkshire) by one hole in the semi-finals while McMullen was a 5 and 3 winner over Suzanne Corcoran (Portumna).
In the Plate, Catherine Bird (Nenagh) defeated
