Scottish universities championships at Lossiemouth

EGGENBERGER LEADS BY THREE AT HALFWAY

Swiss international Mathias Eggenberger (Stirling University) has a three-stroke lead at the halfway stage of the 93rd Scottish universities golf championship over the Moray Golf Club links at Lossiemouth.
Eggenberger, who won this title in 2013, mastered the windy conditions to post a brilliant round over the New Course of five-under-par 65, which actually included six birdies. His only bogey came at the challenging 12th hole.
His 36-hole tally of 134 sees him in a clear lead from Andrew Wilson (Northumbria) who had a second-round 67 for 137. Th
Former Irish amateur champion Cormac Sharvin (Stirling) from Ardglass is in joint third place on 139 (71-68) alongside Henry Tomlinson (Stirling (68-71)..
Leading Scot is Sean Walter (Stirling) from West Linton. He is in fifth place on level par 140 (71-69).
The final two rounds today (TUES) are over the Old Course.
The team competition, staged in conjunction with the first two rounds of the individual championship, saw Stirling win the title for the seventh year in a row.
Hannah McCook from Nethy Bridge and Stirling team-mate Gemma Batty from Formby are tied for the lead in the women's event. Both are on 146, Hannah with rounds of 77-69, Gemma a pair of 73s.
They are four shots clear of another Stirling student, Jen Saxton (77-73) and Abertay's Nastja Banovec (75-75) from Slovenia.
The team match-play stages start on Wednesday with top seeds Stirling favourites to retain the McNeill Trophy.
