EAST LOTHIAN WIN EAST DIV TITLE

FOR FIRST TIME SINCE 1999 AT ELIE

East Lothian clinched a place in the Scottish women's county golf championship finals at Hilton Park GC in September when they beat Midlothian 5 1/2-3 1/2 in the final match of the three-day tournament at North Berwick Golf Club.

It meant that East Lothian had maintained a 100  per cent winning record, having already beaten Stirling and Clackmann 5-4 on Day 1, and Fife 6 1/2-2 1/2 on the second day.

Stirling and Clackmannan beat Fife 7-2 in the other closing match. It was their second win, which earned them second place.

Fife were third with one one while Midlothian, winners of the East title last year and then the Scottish county championship, did not score a single victory this time round. Midlothian had been bidding to win the divisional title for the sixth year in a row, having started their unbroken winning run in 2009.
Former Curtis Cup player and past British champion Alison (Rose) Davidson won all five ties in which she played for Stirling and Clackmannan.
Keren Ward also won five times and lost once in being East Lothian's main points-winner.
Charlotte Munro backed her up with 4pt and former Scottish U18 girls champion Lesley Atkins earned 3 1/2pt.

East Lothian, who had not won the East division title since 199 at Elie,  join Angus (North champions) and Renfrewshire (West champions) in the county finals from September 20 to 22.

The South Division inter-county championship has yet to be played.
