EVERY PICTURE TELLS A STORY ...

OH MY GOODNESS! Where has that one gone? Burhill's Debbie Richards' expression on the first tee at Hunstanton in last week's Senior British women's championship tells it all.
Perhaps in the big bunker below ..?

Lancashire's Emily Taylor is set to pose a threat at the Telegraph Junior Golf Championship following praise from Laura Davies after the Ricoh Women's British Open at Hoylake.

COMPETITORS IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP

Emily Taylor may not have qualified automatically for this year’s Telegraph Junior Golf Championship, but she will still pose a formidable threat at next month’s event.
The Lancastrian has been handed a sponsors’ invite in a field of nine for the 54-hole strokeplay girls’ event in Northumberland – 12 boys will contest the boys’ finals – after a blistering 2012 which saw her debut at a weather-affected Ricoh British Women’s Open at Hoylake.
She played alongside Laura Davies for two rounds before missing the cut by two strokes. However, Davies, who was playing her 100th Major in Liverpool, gave Taylor a glowing reference following their 36 holes together, saying that the Chorley teenager “should be looking for the next challenge now.”
“That was a really nice thing to hear,” said Taylor, who opened with a double bogey before playing the next 17 in one over par. “For someone like that to say those things, I was really honoured. I will definitely take up the advice if she thinks I have what it takes.
“It was a great experience. I couldn’t have asked for a better draw too. I enjoyed every minute with Laura and I was just happy to be a part of it.”
The British Open - she was one of 10 amateurs in the field - marked Taylor’s last appearance in England as a junior.
This week she competes for England at the World Amateur Championship for the Espirito Santo Trophy  in Turkey and is now mulling over the next step in her fledgling career.
Her golden period this year has included winning the English girls' title, following it up with the under-18s title at the Ladies British Open Amateur championship in Belfast. She then added the Irish women’s title to her collection.
“I’ve definitely enjoyed playing more,” she said. “Towards the end of last year I hit a rough patch but I have become much more consistent.”
Taylor, who turned 18 last week, is also relishing the chance of playing in her first Telegraph finals event. She added: “There have been some great names playing over the years and I am really looking forward to it, especially on its return to England.”
The Telegraph’s three-day strokeplay event will take place between October 22-25 at a North-east of England venue.
The finals will see the longstanding event return to British shores for the first time since 1987 when the competition was held at The Belfry. Matthew Fitzpatrick, the British Boys’ champion, has been awarded the sponsors’ invite for the boys’ event.
The finals at Close House, which was opened last year, will be covered by Sky Sports in a 30-minute highlights package after the event.
Hole-in-one prizes
Meanwhile, junior golfers Billy Spooner and Holly Muse both won a Callaway pencil stand bag for their fine efforts this summer. Spooner was the under-14 boys’ winner following his gross 74 at Stoke Rochford. Meanwhile, Muse won the under-14 girls’ event after carding a gross 70 at Formby Ladies Golf Club.
This year’s qualification period also witnessed two hole-in-ones. Samantha Taylor of Sandiway Golf Club and Emily Cheshire at Notts Golf Club both aced holes during qualifying rounds and win six dozen Callaway Hex Chrome golf balls.

AMERICANS LEAD AT END OF JUNIOR RYDER CUP FIRST DAY

The United States hold a two-point lead at the end of the first day of the Junior Ryder Cup and with one match still to be completed there is everything to play for.
The final match was suspended due to darkness at Olympia Fields Country Club, Illinois following an earlier 90 minute fog delay with the US 6 1/2 to 4 1/2 ahead after six morning foursome matches and five afternoon mixed four-ball matches.
The United States team was led in the morning foursomes by Casie Cathrea of Livermore, California and Samantha Wagner of Windermere, Florida who won their match, 3 and 2, over Bronte Law of England and Quirine Eijkenboom of Germany.
"We lost a few holes in a row a few times today but we didn't get down and kept each other up all day," said Cathrea, 16. "We played well as a team and it feels great to get a point for the United States."
Wagner and Cathrea were the second group off in the morning, and captured the first point for the United States Team.
"We putted well all day and that's what you need to do on these greens," said Wagner, who finished runner-up in the 2012 Junior US PGA Championship. "It was important to get that first point for our team."
The United States' three girls' pairings swept their foursome morning matches.
The European Team was led in the morning foursomes by Matthias Schwab of Austria and Dominic Foos of Germany, who won their match in convincing fashion, 5 and 4, over Scottie Scheffler of Dallas, Texas and Robby Shelton of Wilmer, Alabama
Schwab, 17, was runner-up in this year's British Amateur Championship.
Jim Liu of Smithtown, New York, and Esther Lee of Los Alamitos, California, paced the United States Team in the afternoon mixed four-ball, winning their foursome match by 6 and 5 over the Swedish duo of Victor Tärnström and Linnea Ström.
"I had a lot of putts lip out in the morning match and it was pretty frustrating," said Liu, who lost his morning foursomes match, 3 and 2.
"But both Esther and I played well this afternoon and were able to help the team out with a full point."
U.S. Captain Roger Warren was pleased with the play of his team on the opening day.
"Any time you come out of the first day with the lead, it's very good," said Warren. "We still need to finish well in the morning and you never know what can happen in singles."
European Junior Ryder Cup Captain Stuart Wilson is looking forward to singles play today and the opportunity to capture the team's first Junior Ryder Cup since 2006.
"There are still a lot of points to play for," said the Scot. "My players will have no problem getting motivated and hopefully we can close well and see what happens."
The final mixed four-ball match, featuring Gavin Hall and Alison Lee from the United States and Matthias Schwab and Quirine Eijkenboom from Europe, will begin at 8:00 a.m. local time. Hall and Lee have a 1-hole advantage through 16 holes.
The 12 singles matches are scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m local time
