2013 PALMER CUP GOES TO WILMINGTON CC, DELAWARE

FROM GOLFWEEK WEBSITE
Wilmington Country Club has been announced as the 2013 Palmer Cup venue. The annual Ryder Cup-style competition between the best collegiate golfers from the United States and Europe will be played June 7-9 on the South Course.
The club is located in Wilmington, Delaware, and Robert Trent Jones is credited with the initial design and construction of the South Course. It underwent an extensive renovation in 2009, led by golf course architect Keith Foster.
“We’re very pleased to hold the Palmer Cup at Wilmington Country Club,” said Palmer Cup chairman Jim Awtrey. “The South Course is an outstanding match-play course and should provide a tough challenge.
"Wilmington is one of the finest clubs in America, has a long relationship with Arnold (Palmer) and continues the Palmer Cup tradition of playing at some of the world’s top venues.”
Wilmington Country Club hosted the U.S. Junior Amateur in 1965, and has since hosted the ’71 U.S. Amateur, ’78 U.S. Junior and Girls’ Junior and the 2003 U.S. Mid-Amateur.
The U.S. leads the Palmer Cup series, 8-7-1 but Europe are the holders of the trophy, having staged a tremendous last-day revival, much like the Europe Ryder Cup effort later in the year.
