STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN October 17, 2012 –Swedish golfing prodigy, Daniela Holmqvist,  announced today that she has turned professional and signed with IMG, the world’s leading sports, entertainment and media company, for worldwide management and marketing representation.

Holmqvist, who is known for her exceptional ball striking ability, excelled in her amateur career whilst attending College at the University of California. A Swedish national team member for the last two years, Homqvist also became the first Cal female golfer to be named Pac 12  ‘Golfer of the Month’ last March. At still only 24 years-old, the risk-taking Swede now has the LPGA and LET in her sights.

“I am thrilled to be teaming up with IMG who I believe are in the best position to guide me through the next phase of my career” said Holmqvist. “As I target my dream of first playing on the LET and hopefully one day on the LPGA, I feel I am very lucky to have such a great team around me. My family has always been very supportive and with IMG I know they have all the knowledge and experience of working with the best players which fills me with great confidence.”

Daniela will compete at two LET Access events in Crete and Spain in the coming weeks before taking part in the LET Tour School for 2013 which will be held over two weeks from December 6-17, 2012 in Marrakech, Morocco.

Holmqvist was born in Switzerland, but travelled through Europe with her family until the age of five before settling in Sweden. Her father, Hans Holmqvist was a professional football player, with 27 caps (4 goals) for the Swedish national side. There is something in the blood of the Holmqvist family as Daniela’s grandfather was also a golfer from Sweden, and is a Senior European Champion.

“It’s great to see Daniela progressing as a golfer” said her father Hans. “We know she has the ability and skills in her game that are crucial in order compete with the best and we are delighted she has signed with IMG. She has good foundations; good discipline when it comes to practice and the rare ability to play her best when under a lot of pressure.”

Holmqvist is the newest addition to IMG Golf’s distinguished portfolio of international talent that also includes Daniela’s compatriots Jesper Parnevik, Alex Noren and Annika Sorenstam, who she credits as her inspiration to take up the game.

Guy Kinnings, global co-managing director, IMG commented, “There is a great buzz around Daniela’s step up to the professional ranks and we are looking forward to seeing how she tackles the challenges of turning pro. We are very happy she has chosen IMG and are confident that she will give herself the best possible chance to follow in the footsteps of her hero and inspiration Annika Sorenstam.”

Holmqvist will jointly be managed by Eva Herder out of IMG Stockholm and Vicky Cuming & Celina Radwanski out of the IMG London office.

Vicky Cuming commented, “Daniela has had a fantastic amateur career and, after some well-spent years at the University of California we believe she is ready for a very successful professional golfing career. Daniela is a focused individual in her own right and an incredibly talented golfer with the determination to succeed. We really think she has a broad appeal and can’t wait to work with her.”
