Press Release

England’s leading female amateur golfers of the 2007 season – Melissa Reid and Florentyna Parker - were honoured at the ELGA annual meeting.
Melissa, from Chevin in Derbyshire, is the winner of the ELGA order of merit while Florentyna, from Royal Birkdale, topped the girls’ table. Both received vouchers from sponsors One Up Golf, the mail order golf clothing company.
Melissa, 20, turned professional at the end of a superb 2007 season and was unable to attend the meeting because she was preparing for her first tournament, the Dubai Ladies Masters which starts next week.
Her award was accepted by Jean Bingham of the Derbyshire ladies’ executive committee, who told the meeting: “Derbyshire is so proud of Melissa. She’s come through our junior ranks and has always been most supportive of county golf. Juniors have been encouraged by her and she’s a super girl!”
Melissa’s 2007 honours included winning the amateur salver at the Women’s British Open, where she finished 16th; becoming British stroke-play champion, successfully defending her Scottish stroke-play title and capturing the St Rule Trophy.
Florentyna, 18, told the meeting of her pleasure in winning the girls’ order of merit in her final season as a junior. She paid tribute to the all-round support of the ELGA team and said: “It all helps us to become the best players we can be.”
During the season the international won the French lady junior championship, was runner-up in the British stroke-play and played a crucial role in Europe’s Junior Solheim Cup win with three wins from three matches.
