WOMEN'S HOME INTERNATIONALS

TITLE FOR ENGLAND; WOODEN SPOON FOR SCOTS

England have won the women’s home golf internationals title for the second year in a row and the fifth time in the past seven years.
They recovered from a 2-1 deficit in the final morning’s foursomes at Frilford Heath Golf Club to engulf Wales 5-1 in the singles for an overall 6-3 victory. England had already beaten Ireland and Scotland.
England had the “player of the tournament” – Kerry Smith who gained more points than any other – 5pt out of six.
Ireland beat Scotland 6-3 in the other match, which meant that the Scots, who have not won the title since 1991, finished at the bottom of the table.
Scotland’s most prolific points-earners were Heather MacRae (Dunblane New) and 15-year-old Sally Watson from South Queensferry, now on her way back to the David Leadbetter Golf Academy in Bradenton, Florida.
Both Heather and Sally gained 3pt.
Next year’s home internationals will be staged at Dunbar Golf Club.
