MARTINE POW beat ELAINE MOFFAT 3 and 2.
Martine was never behind in this tie against the former champion and local player after winning the second with a par and the third with a birdie. Elaine, who felt her approaching putting (normally her strong point) let her down throughout this match, did win back the fifth but she lost the ninth to a birdie 3 and was two down at the turn.
Martine won the 11th to go three up. Moffat got her only birdie of the round to win the 13th but she three-putted the 14th to go back to three down and halves at the 15th and 16th finished the tie. Pow was round about level par at the finish.
ANNE LAING beat FIONA LOCKHART 7 and 6.
Anne Laing made the first move by birdieing the second and third but Fiona countered with a birdie of her own at the fourth. A par at the fifth was good enough for Anne to regain a two-hole lead, which suddenly stretched to five by the turn.
Laing birdied the seventh, parred the eighth and birdied the ninth, winning all three holes.
The purple patch for Anne continued on the inward half when she birdied the 10th and was conceded the 11th to be seven up. A half at the 12th ended the tie with Laing four under par for the holes played.
