KATE PHILLIPS IS NEW WELSH CHAMPION
Red hot favourite Becky Brewerton (Abergele) was beaten in the semi-finals of the Welsh women's amateur championship at Aberdovey and the title went to Kate Phillips, a 20-year-old from Creigiau.
Phillips had scored a very good win in her semi-final over Curtis Cup player Sarah Jones (Pennard) who was well and truly beaten, 8 and 6, by Kate.
Brewerton lost by 2 and 1 to the surprise packet of the championship, Somerset-based Katie Walls.
In the 18-hole final, Kate beat Katie by 2 and 1.
