TOP SEED SHANNON CRASHES OUT OF BRITISH GIRLS

Shannon McWilliam (Aboyne)

SHOCK 7 and 6 DEFEAT FOR TOP SEED SHANNON IN SECOND ROUND
Shannon McWilliam (Aboyne), the leading qualifier, surprisingly made an exit from her last British girls' open amateur championship - she had her 18th birthday earlier this month - in the second round at Enville Golf Club today.
Defeat by Samantha Fuller, a talented player from the Roehampton, London club, was always a possibility but it was the margin of Shannon's defeat - 7 and 6 - which was difficult to digest from a player in top form over the stroke play qualifying rounds and even in the morning 2 and 1 win over the last of the 64 match-play qualifiers, Hannah Screen (Berkhamsted).
The only other Scot to make the match-play stages, Hazel McGarvie (Troon Ladies), was also beaten. She lost at the 19th to Ireland's Lauren Walsh (Castle Warden) in the first round.
