CLARA YOUNG BEST OF SCOTS ON OPENING DAY IN SWITZERLAND

St Rule Trophy winner and former Scottish champion Clara Young (North Berwick) did best of the Scots in the field of 144 for the European women's individual amateur championship which teed off at Lausanne, Switzerland today (Wed).
Clara shot a level par 72 despite a double bogey 6 at the 10th. She birdied the seventh, 14th and 18th to be joint 22nd after the first round, four shots behind the Dutch leader, Zhen Bontan.
Shannon McWilliam (Aboyne) had a double bogey 6 at the first hole but birdied the 11th and 15th to salvage a 73 for a T39 position.
Hannah McCook (Granton on Spey) had two late bogeys (the 16th and 17th) as she returned a 74 for a T57 place.
Moffat-based Gemma Batty, like McWilliam, started with a double bogey 6 on her way to a 76 and T91 position.
Heather Munro (Monifieth) and Chloe Goadby (St Regulus) had scores of 79 and 81 respectively. Neither had any birdies.
