ALICE STILL IN GEORGIA MIX DESPITE DOUBLE BOGEY

Alice Hewson is hanging on in there, joint third and three shots behind leader Jennifer Kupcho, with one round to go in the NCAA Athens Regional over a par-72 course of 6,344yd at Athens, Georgia.

The Curtis Cup player from Berkhamsted, a student at Clemson University, has had rounds of 69 and 72 for 141, sharing third place with three players behind Kupcho (Wake Forest) (68-70 for 138) and Lauren Stephenson (Alabama) (69-70) for 139.

Hewson birdied the second, sixth, short eighth, long ninth and long 18th in halves of 34 (2 under) and 38.

She had a double bogey 6 at the 10th, but for which she would have had a definite winning chance on Wednesday. Alice also bogeyed the short third and par-4 fourth, and a 4 at the short 16thy.

Other Brits in the field of 96 had contrasting fortunes in Round 2.

Former Scottish U18 girls champion Fiona Liddell (Baylor), pictured right, shot a four-under 68, an improvement of 11 shots in 24 hours. She had birdies at the fifth, ninth, short 13th, 15th and long 18th in halves of 35 and 33. Her only dropped shot came at the first. Liddell is T26 on 147.

Connie Jaffrey (Kansas State) from Kilwinning, a former GB and I international, has had disappointing rounds of 79 and 77 for 156 and a share of 77th place.

Belfast's Chloe Weir, also a student at Kansas State, has scores 80 and 77 for 157 and 81st place overnight.
