ABERDEEN LADIES’ GOLF CLUB 125th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

Joyce Wilson (Vice-Captain), Helen Faulds and Fiona Seedhouse, (Captain)

Aberdeen Ladies’ Golf Club celebrated its quasquicentennial (125th) year in the Marcliffe Hotel and Spa on Saturday, 18 March. The evening was hosted by the Captain, Fiona Seedhouse, and around 140 members and invited guests were treated to a sumptuous dinner and sparkling speakers.

The evening was kicked off with a surprise when Joyce Wilson, the Vice-Captain, returned to the Club the prize which had been awarded for the winner of the first medal competition played by members over the current course, first awarded on 20th November 1893, and tracked down by her through an auction house in New Jersey, US. An amusing history of the club was then recounted by Aifric Twomey, who recalled the idiosyncrasies of many of the older worthies, and some of those of more recent times, and paid tribute to the many golfing successes of members both past and present.

The evening was rounded off by our after dinner speaker, Helen Faulds, a most accomplished lady golfer and gifted speaker, who very quickly had the room ringing with laughter. A thank you to all who had contributed to the success of the evening was made by the Honorary President, Margaret MacNaughtan, and all left the event in a very happy frame of mind.
