TWO SCOTS QUALIFY FOR BRITISH 

GIRLS' MATCH-PLAY AT HARLECH

Two Scots were among the 64 qualifiers for the match-play stages of the British girls' open amateur golf championship at Royal St David's Golf Club, Harlech in North Wales.

Shannon McWilliam (Aboyne) was the 20th qualifier with a total of 147, thanks to an excellent second-round 69, four under par.

She had six birdies and two bogeys in halves of 36 and 33.

"I played the par-5s a lot better than I did on the first day. I birdied two of them," said McWilliam.

Dubai-based Alison Muirhead, whose father is Scottish, made it through on 150 (72-78).

Seven of the eight players on 152 qualified but the eighth, a Spaniard, was eliminated on a card countback to produce the precise number of 64 qualifiers.

Hazel MacGarvie (78-75) missed out on 153 as did Jillian Farrell on 156 (78-78) and Joanne Free on 164 (83-81).
