McCarthy beats McSherry at 20th in Irish

girls' final at Kilkenny

Julie McCarthy (Forrest Little) has regained the Irish U18 girls champion. She beat international team-mate Niamh McSherry (Lurgan) at the 20th in a superb final at Kilkenny Golf Club.

McSherry went ahead with an eagle at the third but McCarthy squared it with a par at the fourth and birdied the sixth to go back into a one-hole lead.
McSherry fought back with three birdies in a row to start the back nine two holes ahead. McCarthy drew level again at the 16th with the help of a birdie. McSherry regained the lead with a par at the 17th but McCarthy got up and down from a bunker to square the final at the 18th.
The first extra hole was halved in par figures before McCarthy won at the 20th with another par.

Irish Close Plate – Final
The plate final was always going to be a tough battle between Sara Byrne (Douglas) and Beth Coulter (Kirkistown Castle).
Byrne was five up at the turn.
Coulter rallied to win the 10th, 12th, and the 16th, 17th and 18th to take the final into extra holes.
It was the 23rd before Beth Coulter emerged the winner.
