Shannon McWilliam beats 25-year-old Aboyne

course record with an eagle 2 at the last

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Shannon McWilliam, 16-year-old Junior Vagliano Trophy team player for GB and I, has beaten the 25-year-old Aboyne Golf Club's women's course record.

Shannon shot a seven-under-par 65 in the club's women's championship first qualifying round this week - two shots inside the old record of 67 set by Julie Forbes in August 1991.
McWilliam had an eagle, six birdies and one bogey in halves of 31 (four under par) and 34 (three  under).
Her figures were:
OUT: 3-4-3 3-4-4 4-3-3 - 31
    IN: 4-5-3 4-3-4 4-5-2 - 34
After her only three-putt bogey at the 17th hole, Shannon needed a par 4 at the 18th to equal Julie Forbes mark or a birdie to better it.
In fact, she hit a tremendous drive on to the green and holed a 3ft putt for an eagle 2!
Her birdies came at the first, third, seventh, ninth, 10th and 16th.
Shannon, who lives at Torphins and is a pupil at Aboyne Academy, will be 17 years old on August 8.
 Her mother Julie said:
" Unfortunately Shannon is not able to play in the Scottish ladies championship at West Kilbride next week, due to having her Higher exams. She is hoping to go to college in America but it will all depend on her exam results."
