British girls do well in US women's college tournament

Elizabeth Swallow second, Samantha Taylor and Nicola Robertson make top 20

BRISTOL, Tennessee – In their final preparation for the Conference Carolinas Championship, the King University women's golf team put together another solid round in the second round of the Agnes McAmis Invitational. 

The Tornado didn't move up the leaderboard, but the improved on yesterday's score, shooting 318 to finish fourth at 638. King was only four shots off the champion team, and were led by Elizabeth Swallow, pictured right, a final year student from Berkshire. She finished second.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Swallow held a share of the lead going into the final round after shooting 76 on day one. On Tuesday she carded a 77, giving her a total of 153 and a second place finish five strokes off the lead. This marks Swallow's third top 10 finish of the season.

  • Samantha Taylor, pictured right, was next, following her 80 in the opening round with an 80 in the second round for a 10th place finish with a stroke total of 160.

  • For Taylor that marks her fourth top 10 finish of the season. Samantha is a third-year student from Newcastle.

  • Improving from an 83 in the first round was Nicola
    Robertson,
    pictured left, who carded a 79 in the final round, finishing 17th with a total of 162. Nicola is a second-year student from Dunblane and a member of Stirling Golf Club.
  • Daphne Chang took 20th after posting a total of 162. She shot 81 in the first round and followed it with an 82 in the second round.
  • Rounding out the squad was Autumn Bergendahl who shot 98 in the first round and 99 in the second round for a total of 197.
FOR THE FOES

  • Newberry College won the tournament with a total of 634 while Lincoln Memorial University finished  second at 635 and Carson-Newman University third with a total of 636.
  • King University finished  fourth at 638 while Tusculum College rounded out the top five with a score of 643.
  • Carson-Newman's Elizabeth England won the individual medalist honours, posting a tournament total of 148 after carding an even-par 72 in the second round.
