Leona Maguire 69, Bronte Law 71 in Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge Round 1

FROM GOLFWEEK STAFF
After day one of the Northrop-Grumman Regional Challenge, which boasts nine teams in the Golfweek top-15 rankings, Alabama is sitting pretty at the top.
A 6-under 278 at Palos Verdes Golf Club in California got the No. 11 Crimson Tide off to a hot start, rolling to a seven-stroke lead over No. 2 Duke and No. 15 Washington. No. 12 Florida sits in sole possession of fourth after combining for a 3-over 287.
Alabama’s Janie Jackson and North Carolina’s Lexi Harkins are tied for the individual lead after each carded 3-under 68. Duke’s Leona Maguire, the No. 2 individual in the Golfweek rankings, helped her team with a 2 under 69. Bronte Law, the No. 3 individual, posted the top score for UCLA with an even-par 71.
Maybe the most surprising day-one finish is No. 1 USC’s 11-over 295. The Trojans were led by Robynn Ree, who is ranked 14th overall, and Kyung Kim with 1-over finishes to tie for 17th. USC’s Karen Chung, the No. 1 individual, sits in a tie for 36th after posting a 4-over 75.
