THE CUT: 149 STROKES
Jane Turner (West Lothian) among those who missed it

Ballybunion are All-Ireland women's four-ball champions

2015 All-Ireland Miele Four-ball Champions, Ballybunion
NEWS RELEASE FROM IRISH LGU
For the second consecutive year, a Munster club has been crowned Miele All-Ireland Four-ball Champions. The sun shone brightly over Newlands Golf Club early this morning for the final of the Miele All-Ireland Four-ball Championship.
The Ballybunion and Rockmount teams descended on the golf course before 10am and brought with them crowds of supporters and spectators.  Rockmount had the honour on the first tee as ILGU President Valerie Hassett welcomed both teams and wished them well in their respective matches.
The top match was a game of nip and tuck but Ballybunion took a two hole advantage through 12 and never let go as they secured a 3 and 1 victory. The pairings in the second game were evenly matched throughout but the Ballybunion pairing took a one hole lead approaching the 18th.
Matches three and four took a different path as Ballybunion dominated the third and Rockmount the fourth as a point was secured for each side on the 14th.  With a 3 and 1 victory in the top match and a 5 and 4 win in the third, the Munster side had secured enough points over Region 2’s Rockmount to seal victory and take home the Miele All-Ireland Four-ball title.

Paige and Eilidh help Stetson finish fifth in

Jacksonville Classic
Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. – The Stetson University, Florida women’s golf team tied for the low round of the day this past week  in the final round of the Jacksonville Classic, moving up to fifth place in the final standings for the tournament.
The Hatters closed with a 296, which was their highest score of the tournament, but tied with North Florida and Florida State for the low round of the day. None of the other 11 teams in the tournament managed to break 300 in the final round of play.
The result was the Hatters moved past both Houston Baptist and Wofford, and to within a shot of Daytona State for fourth place.
“The course was better today than it had been, but the water was coming up out of the ground because the tides were so high,” Hatters coach Floyd Kerr said. “The greens were still good.
“It was a good tournament for us. Everything was very positive.”
Stetson third-year student Kristine Odaiyar finished the event tied for sixth place overall
Odaiyar's final round  of 71 left her with an even par score of 216
Nationally-ranked Florida State coasted to the team title . The Seminoles (853) surrendered eight shots to par in the final round, but still finished with a 24-stroke advantage over second place Rollins (877). UNF (880) finished third ahead of Daytona State (884) and Stetson (885).
Florida State also led the way in the race for individual medallist honors. Matilda Castren and Kim Metraux, who entered the final round separated by one shot for the lead, remained that way as both players posted scores of 75 in the final round. Rollins’ Annie Dulman shot a 74 to finish tied for third, just two shots off the lead, along with Daytona State’s Katie Veale, who had a final-round 76, and Florida State’s Kayla Jones, who finished with a 75.

Stetson second-year student Paige Kemp,  pictured left, from Essex (her mother is Scottish!) had an up and down final round, closing with a 77 to finish the tournament tied for 47th with a 14-over par score of 230.
Fellow second-year student Eilidh Watson from Dollar got off to a rough start in the final round, but battled her way to a final round score of 80. She finished tied for 52nd, one shot behind Kemp.

Sarah Davison Leads After First Round
 of U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur

NEWS RELEASE FROM USGA
CHOUDRANT, Louisiana  – Sarah Davison, a member at Squire Creek Country Club, the host site of the 29th U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship, shot even-par 72 on the 6,061-yard lay-out to lead after Saturday’s first round of stroke play.
Fellow Louisiana native Ashley Tonore, 38, of Monroe, and Casey Ward, 25, of Canada, are two strokes behind Davison.
Davison, 35, lives adjacent to the 17th hole of Squire Creek in Choudrant, but got off to a little bit of a slow start, sitting 3 over after 12 holes.
Finishing her round on the outward nine, she found her putting stroke with a 35ft birdie putt on the par-4 fourth hole. She followed with a birdie on the par-3 fifth and finished her round with a two-putt birdie on the par-5 ninth.
“It was a little slow start – windy, cold. I just tried to make pars on that portion of the golf course, and get through that, knowing the sun would come out and warm up,” said Davison, a three-time All American at the University of Alabama under her maiden name of Johnston.
“I got my putter working on the middle of my back nine, which always helps out here.”
Tonore, a Louisiana State University graduate and LPGA Tour player under her maiden name of Winn, is playing in her first competitive event since her amateur status was reinstated in 2006. After starting at No. 10 and carding a 3-over start through seven holes, she played her final 11 at 1 under with birdies on 17 and 7.
“I told myself before I started out just be patient,” said Tonore, the former head women’s golf coach at the University of Louisiana-Monroe who now works in pharmaceutical sales for Eli Lilly. “There’s going to be some bogeys here or there and you’ve got to accept that. If I can keep the big numbers out and sneak a couple birdies in, then I felt like it could be a solid round. That’s how it went today, luckily.”
Ward, competing in her first USGA championship, struggled on the greens at times, but balanced it with four birdies.
“I just kind of kept plugging along. I'm pleasantly surprised I did as well as I did, to be honest,” said Ward, the 2015 Ontario Women’s Mid-Amateur champion.
“I had some three-putts out there, but for the most part I was able to move on from those.”
A quartet of players shot 3-over 75, including defending champion Margaret Shirley, 29, of Roswell, Georgia. Sherry Wright, 48, of Chula Vista, California, capped her first USGA championship round with an eagle on the par-4 18th, sinking a 5-iron from 167 yards.
Julie Massa, 52, of Holt, Michigan, and Stacy Dennis, 42, of Addison, Texas, also shot 75.
Four-time Women’s Mid-Amateur champion Meghan Stasi, 37, of Oakland Park, Flora, a former USA Curtis Cup player, shot 6-over 78. Former Women’s Mid-Amateur champions Martha Leach (2009) and Julia Potter (2013) shot 79 and 80, respectively.
Play resumes at 8 a.m. CDT on Sunday for the second round of stroke play, after which the field will be cut to 64 for match play, beginning on Monday.
The 2015 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship is open to female amateur golfers with a Handicap Index® not exceeding 9.4. It consists of 36 holes of stroke play followed by six rounds of match play, with the championship scheduled to conclude with an 18-hole final on Thursday, Oct. 8.
