Lizzie Prior hits record form to win Critchley
Salver at Sunningdale
ENGLAND GOLF NEWS RELEASE
England girl international Lizzie Prior hit record form to win the Critchley Salver by two shots at Sunningdale.
The 17-year-old from Burhill set up her victory in the first round when she shot a course record of eight-under par 67 on the New Course. It included an eagle, six birdies and 11 pars.
It was both her lowest-ever score and her first bogey-free round and she commented: “It was really nice – I enjoyed it!”
During the course of the round she holed a couple of 25-footers, but generally her accurate approach shots left her with very makeable putts and on one par three she hit it to within 2ft.
Prior scored three-over 77 on the Old Course in the second round for a total of five-under 144 and a two-shot win from Dulcie Sverdloff of Essex. Tara Watters of Middlesex was third on two-under par while Lincolnshire’s Emily Slater was one-under.
“I’ve always wanted to win this competition,” said Prior, who is on a roll. The previous week she set another course record of six-under par at Lindfield in Sussex, where she plays her college golf.
She went on to tackle a different challenge – teeing up, by invitation, alongside the men in a EuroPro event at her home course. Next week she’s off to Germany to represent England Golf in the German girls’ open at St Leon Rot.
Prior has already won at the Fairhaven Trophies this season and was in England's winning team at last year's girls' Home Internationals.

Hats off to Hayley! Even in defeat Davis is a
top drawer person

FROM JOHN DRYBURGH
Looking back at the Baylor v Stanford NCAA Championship Final.
An incredible performance by Haley Davis, pictured, yesterday and the class she showed in her post-match interview shows the girl for what she is, top drawer.
See the link below to the highlights and post-match interview.
Have a look at the shot she played on 16 out of deep mud, 140 yards and halmost holed it. Incredible.
Whilst she is going to go back for another year to graduate at Baylor University, the good news for British golf fans is that Hayley will be going to LPGA Q School in August.
If she can get her card, she will tee it up on the LPGA next year whilst finishing her degree.
Under NCAA rules she can't play a fifth year for Baylor.
Hayley is going to Australia over the summer to take summer school credits so isn't playing in the "British" which is a real shame.
Lauren White put up a great fight and chipped in three times in her match and will no doubt have matured as a result of this experience.

It's too big to print but the link may be of interest to Kirkwodgolf readers.

Scots-born Karis Davidson finishes T13 in
Arizona Thunderbird Junior Championship Queensland-based, Innerleithen-born Karis Davidson, the highest ranked Scots-born female at number 86 in the World Amateur Rankings, finished a creditable joint 13th in a girls' international field of 30 players at the 2015 Thunderbird Junior International Championship over a longish Raptor Course (Par 72, 6,342yd) at Grayhawk Golf Club, Scottsdale, Arizona this week, writes Colin Farquharson The Davidson family emigrated from the Tweed Valley to Queensland seven years ago, since when Karis has become one of the leading Australian girl golfers
Karis, pictured, who has her 17th birthday on July 7 , shot 73-74-71 for a two-over-par tally of 218 - only six shots behind the winner, Mika Lui from Beverly Hills, California (68-74-70 for 212). Lui is ranked No 41 in the WWAGR
A bonus for the Scots teenager on her trip to the States was a guided tour of the Ping factory and a gift of a new set of custom-fitted Ping clubs.
There were no British girls in the field.
Matty Lamb from Hexham and Daniel O'Loughlin from Nottingham finished T31 and T39 respectively in the boys' division won by Sam Burns from Shreveport, Louisiana with an 11-under-par total of 205 (69-66-70)
Lamb was doing quite well with his first two rounds of 73 and 71 but he faded over the final circuit for a 79 and a total of seven-over 223.
O'Loughlin shot 76-79-72 for 227

Burns holds lead to win Thunderbird International Junior
Liu takes home Girls Division title in third appearance at Grayhawk
SCOTTSDALE, Ariona – Sam
Burns of Shreveport, Louisiana, made birdie on No. 18 to hold onto his
lead, firing a 2-under-par 70 in the final round to win the Thunderbird
International Junior with a tournament total 11-under-par 205.
In the Girls Division, Mika Liu of Beverly Hills, California, reclaimed the top spot to win at 4-under-par 212 tournament total.
Burns entered the final round with a
two-stroke lead over the field, but felt the competition nipping at his
heels from the start, but the No. 1 player in the Polo Golf Rankings
held on, winning his third Invitational.
“It means a lot to me to win since it was one
of my last AJGA tournaments,” said Burns, who will play at Louisiana
State University in the fall. “I had to focus on my game and get myself
as many opportunities to birdie as possible. I think if you do that out
here you can score pretty well. Last year I had the same deal where I
was leading after two rounds and lost it, but I wasn’t going to let that
happen this year.”
Braden Thornberry fired the low final-round
score with a 5-under-par 67, finishing second with a 10-under-par 206
tournament total. Tied for third at 7-under-par 209 were Collin Morikawa
of La Canada Flintridge, California, and Koichiro Ishika of Kakogawa,
Japan, and tied for fifth at 5-under-par 211 were Sahith Theegala of
Chino Hills, California, and Hidetoshi Yoshihara of Irvine, California.
Liu made back-to-back birdies on Nos. 14 and
15 on her way to winning her third AJGA event and second title in as
many weeks after taking the inaugural U.S. Women's Amateur Four-Ball
title. The No. 30 player in the Polo Golf Rankings was playing in her
third Thunderbird International Junior.
“Every time I come to this tournament it is
really special to me,” Liu said. “After three years of coming here I
finally grabbed the title. My strengths today were hitting on the
fairways and hitting on the greens. I was just conserving myself to not
get in trouble, make pars, and grabbing birdie opportunities when I
could.”
Tied in second were Angel Yin of Arcadia,
California, and Bailey Tardy of Norcross, Georgia, with a 3-under-par
213 tournament total, and tied in fourth were Andrea Lee of Hermosa
Beach, California, and Mariel Galdiano of Pearl City, Hawaii, with a
4-under-par 214.

Hayley Davis loses at 19th - Baylor go down
3-2 to Anne Walker's Stanford in NCAA Final
FROM THE BAYLOR UNIVERSITY, TEXAS WEBSITE
with some additional words by Colin Farquharson
BRADENTON, Florida - Baylor University women's golf team, which included Hayley Davis from Dorset and Lauren Whyte from St Andrews, fell on the first play-off hole in the NCAA Division I national championship match against Stanford on Wednesday at The Concession Golf Club.
Stanford University from California - Tiger Woods' alma mater and where Scot Anne Walker is the women's head coach with Kathryn Imrie from Monifieth an assistant - won a thrilling contest 3-2.
The Bears got wins from Dylan Kim (3 and 1) and Giovana Maymon 4 and 3), but Hayley Davis's putt on her 19th hole just missed, ending Baylor's chance at a national championship.
Davis was two up with two holes remaining in regulation ;play and had an eight-foot putt on the 17th green that would've clinched the national title, but Stanford's Mariah Stackhouse evened the match with wins on No. 17 and No. 18, and then Stackhouse won by making par on the first play-off hole, No. 10.
“My heart is hurting right now for Hayley,” Baylor coach Jay Goble said. “She has been the heart and soul of our team and she has single-handedly elevated our team to this position. My heart is really hurting for her right now."
It was Hayley Davis's last tournament on the US women's college circuit after four years at Baylor University, Texas
It was a dramatic reversal from Baylor's semi-final match against Duke, where the Bears' Lauren Whyte clinched the match over the defending national champions on her sixth play-off hole.
Maymon won her match against Quirine Eijkenboom from Germany 4 and 3, and Dylan Kim claimed a 3 and 1 victory over Lauren Kim to get the Bears within one point of the title.
Laura Lonardi trailed most of the day before she fought back to all-square by winning the 14th hole, but she was eventually defeated by Casey Danielson, who won by two holes.
Freshman Whyte, hero of Baylor's semi-final win, was defeated 4 and 3 by Shannon Aubert from France.
The second-place finish was by far the best in Baylor's women's golf program history. It was only their third qualification to play in the NCAA Championship. Their previous highest finish was a tie for 16th in 2012 best finish was a tie for 16th in 2012, head coach Jay Goble's first year at the helm.
TOP QUOTE #1
"I love seeing the fight out here in match play with that crew. They fight to be the best at everything they do and they fought out there on the golf course every second today. Yes, it stings, because you're so close to the pinnacle. But for me as a coach and I know for them as a player, I'm going to use it as motivation to get back here and to get back in that position again, because I love it." - head coach Jay Goble.
TOP QUOTE #2
"Since my freshman year when I came in at the same time as Jay (Goble), just kind of changed the goals of the program, like we need to be competing for a national championship. That's why I came to Baylor because that's what I wanted for the program. Where the program was before I came, I knew it wasn't the best program, but it had potential, and that's why I came to Baylor because I knew it really could be like this. So yeah, I'm just really excited how it's going for them, and I think it's only going to get better, too."- senior Hayley Davis.

Stanford University from California - Tiger Woods' alma mater - won a thrilling contest 3-2.
The Bears got wins from Dylan Kim (3 and 1) and Giovana Maymon 4 and 3), but Hayley Davis's putt on her 19th hole just missed, ending Baylor's chance at a national championship.
