For all golfing mothers and daughters who have not yet heard of the Mothers and Daughters Championship, Please save the date – 16th April 2016!!

Mothers and Daughters partnerships from all over England congregate annually at Royal Mid Surrey Golf Club, in Richmond, to contest this unique foursomes event in the amateur golfing calendar.

Since 1932 mothers and daughters have been getting together to do battle at this historic competition; originally played at Ranelagh by the Veterans’ ladies golfing association, it  moved to Royal Mid Surrey in 1962 when the organisers decided it should become open.

Since then it has attracted the crème of the amateur games, with some legendary players competing with their mother or daughter, including Pam Barton, Angela Uzielli, Vivien Saunders, Jill Thornhill, Linda Bayman, Liz Boatman, Angela Bonallack and current England International, Alex Peters, to name but a few!!

This year 14-year-old Amelia Williamson continued to break records, as the youngest player to win her second successive title, with her mother Tracey. The county players from Norfolk are following in the footsteps of Alexandra Peters, who won enjoyed three consecutive victories as a teenager with her mother.

The Williamsons, who crept to victory by only one shot in 2014, claimed their second title in emphatic style with an impressive aggregate of 4-over-par, in the 27-hole event. Their score of 110 (75,35) was seven shots better than the second placed pair, who happened to be their playing partners, Sue and Hayley Todd from Royal Ashdown Forest.
