It took nearly a full season, but Jessica Korda is back on track.
The 22-year-old shot a Saturday 65 at the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club, moving two shots ahead at the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia in the process.
Korda is at 12-under 201 through 54 holes, with Stacy Lewis and Ha Na Jang two back at 10-under 203.
The top spot shouldn't seem unfamiliar for Korda, a three-time LPGA Tour winner, except that she has suffered a disastrous 2015 campaign. After opening the season with a T-2, she hasn't recorded a top 10 since, missing eight cuts along the way.
So the 22-year-old is extra enthused to be scratching the top of the leaderboard again.
“It’s a confidence builder. I haven’t been in this position in such a long time, since basically January,” Korda said. “It’s just so nice to be back.”
It was a bogey-free round on Saturday that vaulted her back to the top, and Lewis also had nary a square on her card in a matching third-round 65. Jang, the overnight leader, actually reached 12 under before faltering back to 10 under by the time the round concluded.
Lydia Ko is three back at 9 under after a third-round 68. Michelle Wie and Alison Lee are T-14 at 6 under.
Lewis herself will be gunning on Sunday to end a year of frustration. While the American possesses several top-three finishes, she has yet to win on the LPGA Tour in 2015.
She'll be looking for career victory No. 12, and it appears an aggressive mindset will be in order to get that done.
“This golf course is just a shootout,” Lewis said. “It’s just who is going to make the most birdies at the end of the week."
