Europe win singles, but lose to USA in the Hickory Grail

GILLIAN KIRKWOOD REPORTS FROM NEW JERSEY
This week Hickory golfers from USA and Europe competed in the 9th Hickory Grail match at Baltusrol Golf Club, New Jersey.
The first day's play of Foursomes and Four-balls was rather a whitewash for America.  Europe won only one match out of six in the morning Foursomes and gained only 1/2 a point in the afternoon Four-balls.

The score of 10 1/2 to 1 1/2 in favour of the United States was a steep score line to overcome.
However, the European team, which consisted of eight Swedes and the rest from GB and I rallied this morning (Tuesday) to win the Singles series by 6 1/2 matches to 5 1/2 and make the  final score line of 8 to 16 rather more respectable.
