Ireland and England first-day winners in Women's Home Internationals

Hannah and Shannon star in Scotland defeat
Scotland are fighting to avoid the wooden spoon once again in the Women's Home Internatinals after losing 6.5-2.5 to Ireland in their opening match - a repeat of last year's scoreline when the Scots ended the three-day tournament bottom of the table.
Scotland's second-day opponents are defending champions England who were given a really tough opening match by Wales. It went right down to the final singles before England, who had lost the foursomes 2-1, got the decisive point in a 5-4 victory.
The writing was on the wall for Scotland after they lost all three foursomes to Ireland but there were some fine individual performances by the Scots in the singles.
Grantown on Spey's Hannah McCook, pictured above, not played in the foursomes, came into the line-up to score the best win of her career. She beat the LGU Order of Merit winner Olivia Mehaffey by two holes after being one up at the turn.
Aboyne teenager Shannon McWilliam also scored a very good afternoon win by 2 and 1 agains the highly-rated Irish player Paula Grant.
Scotland's half-point in the singles came from Carnoustie's Ailsa Summers who lost a one-hole lead at the final hole for a square match against Marie Dunne.
