Gareth Lappin from Belfast shares lead in Jackrabbit college tournament

Gareth Lappin, winner of the Irish boys' championship in 2012 and now in his third year as a student at Michigan State University, is co-leader of  a field of 73 players after the first round of the Jackrabbit Invitational Collegiate Championship at Prairie Club's Dunes course in Valentine, Nebraska.

Gareth, pictured right, and Aaron Wise (Oregon) both shot three-under-par 69s on the opening day.
Scottish amateur champion Robert MacIntyre from Oban and a sophomore student at McNeese State University - winner of his most recent US college tournament, is in joint 16th place on 76 after bogeying the 13th, 14th, 17th and 18th from being one undr par on the 13th tee.
MacIntyre's Scottish freshman team-mates, Duncan McNeill from Annan and Niall McMullen from Lochgelly, shot 79 (jt 45) and 81 (jt 60) respectively.
McNeill had double bogeys at the fifth and 10th; McMullen three double bogeys on his card.
The best placed Scot in the field is Euan Walker from Troon, a studenty at Missouri University. He is lying joint 12th with a 74.
