(University Place, Wash.) - USD junior Grant Forrest (North Berwick, Scotland) won medalist honors at the 2014 Redhawk Invitational being played at Chambers Bay, the site of the 2015 U.S. Open Championship. Forrest shot a final round 72 to finish at 11-under par 200 (63-65-72). He finished three strokes ahead of ASU's Jon Rahm, the 17th-ranked player in the nation.
The Toreros finished in 4th place in the 18-team field with a total of 8-over par 852 (280-276-296). UCLA, the 15th-ranked team in the nation, won the team title with a three-round total of 835 (-9). The Bruins were followed by 17th-ranked Washington (838, -6) and 29th-ranked Arizona State (847, +3).
For Forrest, it was his third title this season and fourth of his Torero collegiate career. In the fall season he won the Saint Mary's Invitational, and this past February won the Farms Collegiate. His first collegiate win came last season when he won the 2013 West Coast Conference championship.
On Monday Forrest set the competitive course record at Chambers Bay with his 7-under 63 on the 7,047-yard layout, and then followed that up with a 65 for a seven-stroke lead heading into today's final round.
USD junior Mathias Dahl (Stockholm, Sweden) turned in a strong performance as he finished tied for 7th at 210 (70-66-74). Dahl was followed by Alex Chiarella (T49 at 222, 72-75-75), Taylor Schmidt (T55 at 224, 75-70-79) and Nick Baines (T70 at 228, 78-75-75).
The Toreros will return to the Pacific Northwest for the 2014 West Coast Conference Championships over April 14-16 at the Gold Mountain Golf Course in Bremerton, Washington.
